At the very beginning, David sits in front of his newest drawing, showing a man with two guns, a rose right of him and a tower far behind on the left side. This drawing shows Roland, a character out of "The Dark Tower", a well-known series of books from Stephen King. There is a scene in which David Drayton is arguing with Brent Norton trying to convince him of something in the mist when the camera pans to Mr. Norton and directly behind him are bags of Zapp's Potato Chips which are made in Gramercy, LA and only sold in the South; however, the movie is set in Maine. [Their website says they ship anywhere in the lower 48 states.

When they finally get the mop lit and they use the fire to fight the creature at the front of the store, the creature takes flight into the ceiling, knocking the bulbs out of one of the fluorescent lights. Both bulbs fall and hit a checkstand, but neither of them break, they just bounce around as if they are PVC tubing (which, for the actors safety, is probably what they were). [I've personally seen fluorescent light bulbs bounce like that. It's seems unlikely, but they really can do that.]

When the bugs fly into the store and begin attacking people, one of the bugs lands on the chest of Mrs. Carmody. She looks down to it and says, "My life for you." This is a reference to The Stand, also by Stephen King. In The Stand, Trashcan Man repeatedly says, "My life for you" whenever he sees Randall Flagg. [Actually, this is a reference to a biblical passage: "Peter said to him, 'Master, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.' Jesus answered, 'Will you lay down your life for me? Amen, amen, I say to you, the cock will not crow before you deny me three times.'" (John 13: 37-38)]

In the scene where the bugs are flying into the store, one bites a girl on the right side of her neck. But when she is lying on the floor, dying from the bite, it is on the left side of her neck. [The sting as they call it in the movie is on the right side but it never changed to the left.]
