The scene in which Joe Pistone bets his children that they can't make it through breakfast without saying three words (and his daughter replies "You lose") is a reference to a similar bet made to, and the exact same reply from, president Calvin Coolidge.
Joe Pistone maintained his cover so convincingly in real life, the Bonanno Family seriously considered "making" him before it was revealed he was an FBI agent.
