The movie is set in the 1970's. In the scene where Al Pacino goes somewhere in Broadway to see his ex girlfriend performing and when she meets him at the table where he's siting, she orders a Diet Coke. There was no diet Pepsi or Diet Coke or any other sort of diet soda back in the 1970's. They all came out in the early 1980's. [Diet Pepsi was introduced in 1964.]
During one of the last scenes, as cops chase Carlito through NYC's Grand Central Terminal, he runs past a couple of Chase Manhattan Bank ATM machines. Last time I checked, there were no ATMs in 1975. [The ATM celebrated its 30th birthday in 1995 (see: http://cgi.cnn.com/TECH/9509/atm/), so it wasn't even brand new in 1975.]
